Usual approach for me for an England game now, don't expect anything other than a boring game and a defeat and anything more than that is a bonus. Really can't get too excited about England football lately. To be fair, England are very, very good in qualifiers. Their record is outstanding going bac...

Should we ban alcohol - this is something that kills people, kills innocent people and destroys more families than guns, yet anyone over the legal drinking age can do it. many get into cars and become dangerous, on a weekly basis. The specific purpose of a gun is to kill. And here you are comparing...

I shall assume Pomps mantle as he's moved on. 0-2 in the 82nd at post time. WLWLWL over the last 6...appalling inconsistency is usually laid at the managers doorstep. Sort it out KJ! Or it could be because the team is an average side who tend to win and lose in equal amounts. Someone has to fill ou...

Who remembers our first ever game in the Premier League? At home against Villa. We won 2-1. A young looking Barry played in that game. Scored a penalty and then a few minutes later was sent off! I remember the Villa penalty was won by a player (Lee Hendry?) tripping over his own feet. An absolute t...

I've paused the moment when Lowe strikes the ball for his 2nd goal and he can't be more than a couple of feet away from the byline. 'An acute angle' doesn't do it justice. You'd always have to question the keeper for concession of a goal from an angle like that but in his defence the speed and accu...

Please keep your reports coming, Bill. You're one of the reasons this board hasn't had its life support switched off. Judging from the opening 8 games, Pompey seem to have enough about them to be able to acquit themselves reasonably enough in League 1. When you look at how Plymouth and Donnie are st...

past memories wrote:Well after all he did a Redknapp, and we know how that works.
Redknapp walked out on Pompey midseason and within a couple of weeks had joined that lot down the road. I do not think it is in any way a comparable situation!

Ok, so he was talking out of his backside when he came out with that statement but did that really make a difference to the fans’ attitude? Should it? As you say, he never really seemed popular at Fratton, despite his success so I think he was going to get abuse the moment he became an ex-Pompey man...

Paul Cook got absolutely roasted by the majority of our fans, with two or three unsavory songs aimed at him throughout the match. I don't really understand the mentality of fans sometimes. He had two good seasons managing Pompey and won the League 2 title so he probably deserves a little gratitude ...

Kevin Dillon, was "Dead-Eye" because he was superb at penalties. Mick Quinn was "Noah" because he always scored in twos. Guy Whittingham was "Corporal Punishment" because Pompey got him from the Army and he ran opposition defences ragged. Darren Moore was "Bruno&qu...

On a personal level there was another thing annoying about that match. I lived fairly close by at that particular time of my life and so for a few years I pretty much always went to the Manor Ground when Pompey came to town. But did I go that night? Nope. Missed a goalfest classic didn't I.

He is not the player he once was, it was noted several times last season, particularly by Selsey Bill. If he were not earning the wages that he is, he would represent excellent value for money as an impact sub. But he is. It depends on Mr Roberts himself, now. No club is going to be interested in h...

That doesn't mean I won't be happy if we don't , but I s'pose what I'm saying is, the more games we win, the more I'm happy. Therefore, the higher up the divisions we are, the more I'm happy. I think doing well in whatever division you find yourself in is the key to happiness. Some of my favourite ...

Apparently Pompey have beaten Charlton to sign free agent Nathan Thompson from Swindon. He was captain for Swindon last year and is out of contract at the end of the month. He's 26 and played 150 games for Swindon (his only professional club). Not sure what this means for Burgess and Clarke as the ...
