Re: Last Minute Deals

Time will tell, but it seems to me that we have had a pretty decent transfer window, and now have a much stronger squad. I'd go as far to say proportionately its the best window we've ever had. Our peak Premiership years saw a lot of high profile business, but in terms of big improvements all over ...

Re: Your Team vs Newport

It was never a great competition, nowadays its just totally redundant. I doubt even 55 lost a wink of sleep after last night's exit.

Re: Your Starting Team v Cheltenham

Just watched the highlights. Jacobs definitely made the most of the penalty incident, but the defender really should have known better.

And for the record, Pack has got a monster throw! That's something I've not seen us have in our locker for a long time!

Stallone, Michael Caine, Bobby Moore, Ardiles, Pele and more.
And ex-Pompey winger Kevin O'Callaghan! Who plays in goal for some reason, before Stallone gets in.

Re: Commonwealth Games

I went to the cricket at Edgebaston, the free public transport in the west midlands and the shuttle buses were great - really enjoyed the cricket and the atmosphere in Birmingham was cracking. Had hoped to spend a bit longer in the city centre after the cricket and visit some old haunts but it was ...

I was working there every day, covering mostly hockey, but also covered the squash, cricket, some athletics and beach volleyball. Also did the opening ceremony, but not the closing last night.

I tried to upload a few images here, but the site doesn't like the attachments!

Re: Mondo Duplantis

Yeah, it was amazing (three world records broken in this championships, all of them have been pretty stunning performances). And very true about the need to break the record by 1cm at a time! Actually thought we had a pretty decent championships (I think I heard someone mention the target was six m...

Re: Your Starting xi vs Sheff Wed

I think its a great game to get out of the way first up, regardless of result. The season opener is always a bit of a lottery. A point or three is a bonus, a defeat is largely meaningless plus we don't have to think about Hillsborough away all season.

Its all carefully manipulated too. I think he knows he can go much higher, but keeps breaking the WR by 1cm every few months in a major tournament - which earns him a lot of sponsorship money.

Mondo Duplantis

No, not a new signing - but the World Record pole vaulter. Just broken his own world record for the sixth time in two years, and he's still clearing the bar with room to spare. https://www.worldathletics.org/competitions/world-athletics-championships/oregon22/news/report/wch-oregon22-report-men-pole...

Re: New Kit

Its the usual argument. Fans want Nike, but Nike don't want us - not for a unique kit anyway. So we're stuck with their off-the-peg merch. I think its moot anyway. Unless you're a footballer actually playing, everyone over the age of 12 looks like a tit in a replica shirt. I would have thought fans...
