Millwall keeper, rumours he is set to join

Life is all about ass. You're either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it or trying to get a piece of it.

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a crate .... coincidence? i think not!!!

That article cites a history of Forde losing his place after making mistakes.

339 games in the last 6 years? Couldn't have made that many mistakes then!

Got this from a Millwall fan friend:-

I'm trying to find out from him, what he thinks of Forde. He looks older than me in the photo!!!

I was reflecting this morning - realistically how much better could Cook/Pompey have done than David Forde on loan for the entire season?

On paper he fits the criteria we were looking for (dominates his area by coming for crosses, has playing experience, will be a strong voice behind the back four organizing them (considering the age of Clarke, Burgess particularly) and a good positive dressing room influence).....and only a year ago was the ROI's first choice keeper and was instrumental in a 1-1 draw away at Germany: the current World Champions

I am sure he may have made a few mistakes last year that led him to lose the no.1 shirt at Millwall but which keeper has not gone through a rocky spell? He can only be an improvement on what Pompey had in goal most of last season.

Now signed on a season long loan according to the snooze.

Seen him play a few times for Ireland. Not the most imposing but a decent enough keeper.

I hope I'm wrong, but not the most inspiring piece of business! Accident prone keepers at the age of 36, don't suddenly become good and reliable - to me it sends out the wrong messages to the younger members of the squad. It looks like he's a keeper with baggage - he joins because I doubt many clubs would give him a season long contract.....just saying!

LOL pomp you have really read up on him haven't you.
why has he got baggage ?? he has been at millwall for 6 years and been ousted by a young up n coming and well thought of keeper. He was / is a republic of Ireland international.

All sounds like a calamitous keeper with baggage to me

I know I was somewhat flippant above, but in reality this is a good move.

Jones is struggling coming back from various injuries and Bass is clearly not ready (although seems to be liked by management). We need someone to start the season, and will continue to need him all year as either first or second choice. A one year deal will allow us to reassess the situation in 2017.

What we, as supporters, never know in these sorts of deals is who else was available, willing to play in L2 and how much they would have cost. We haven't had the best record with goalkeepers since falling to L2, and Cook did no better than his predecessors, but I think we have to accept that Forde was the best that could have been done.

I know that I'd prefer (to quote you) 'a young and well thought of keeper.' Mr Forde is an old pro who will have nothing in common with some of our kids and I can't see him bonding that well in the team structure. If you're his age and still playing, he'll be set in his ways and his baggage is that he's prone to errors......

All right to warm the bench but not a first choice keeper!

tbh it's all a bit depressing innit......throughout the years, in all the divisions, Pompey seem to have had a reliable fixture between the sticks for the most part. This glaringly obvious hole in the current team seems unfillable by Captain Cook......can yer not even find a decent goalie Sir?.....you've had 14 months....need more time?
