Neil Allen - Top Journo or Top Bell_end?

Post by Milkins »

Just reading through the online drivel that is The News sports pages. Two stories that captured my limited attention - one about how Rocha is dead happy about his time at Fratton and the other about Paynter.

Now, the Rocha story contains a major own trumpet blowing session by Allen regarding the breaking of the news that Ashdown and Rocha were not getting new contracts. It then goes on to wind up the reader (see comments) with reports that the pair of them heard of their demise from The News rather than the club. I can't for the life of me believe that Mr Appleton did not discuss the situation with them before this went public. The News, through Mr Allen, had written the piece at the beginning of the week. I've no idea where they/he got the info from but would guess a text from someone on the fringes. It may well be the case that they decided to go with the story on flimsy evidence (a common journalistic approach). I repeat, I cannot believe the pair didn't know they were leaving and I'm guessing the story went out before formalisation of the severance.

The reason I have highlighted the above is simply that, on reading the Paynter story, it's plainly obvious that Allen often puts two and two together and gets sh!te. Sometimes the sh!te hits the bullseye. The Paynter headline is "Pompey weighing up Paynter move". There is not the remotest shred of evidence to back this up in the text. The closest it gets is "Appleton may believe he can provide the stage for Paynter to flourish again."

Verdict : Top Bell_end.

I have read elsewhere that Ashdown's wife tweeted that Ashdown only learnt he wasn't being offered a new deal when he read it in the press. I don't tweet myself (is that a euphemism) but I'm sure someone more twitterate (did I just make up a new word?) than me can post a link to this tweet.

She didn't say Jamie found out from the press, she said she did:

Top Journo - comparative phrase. See "Top Chav".

Not necessarily, but when we sold Asmir I know that his wife found out the details from Sky Sports News.

She'd been watching it to get information, she said it would be quicker.

By George I think you have. And it's a good one. We should watch the mainstream press to see how long it takes to reappear.
Can I supplement illtwitterate please?

If Jamie knew at the end of the season why has his wife Zoe championed getting players to sign up to the trust?
