All I can say is, my Royal British Legion Standard glitters, my brasses shimmer, I can shave with my trousers and use my shoes as mirrors.
For two reasons, we are having a drum head service this evening to celebrate HRH and give thanks to those Servicemen and woman (including those civilians) who have died during her reign.

An opportunity to test one's credulity valve watching the peasants debasing themselves worshipping their masters.

Tosh. They exist by the grace of the people, we're permanently one referendum away from sacking them all.forty9er wrote:An opportunity to test one's credulity valve watching the peasants debasing themselves worshipping their masters.

Re: jubilee?
Hate to be picky, but the Queen is HM. Phillip is HRH, as are the royal princes and princess.
A reigning monarch would be rather affronted to be referred to by the lesser title of HRH.

Get rid of them and the country loses one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world. IIRC they used to be regarded as the fifth largest money making industry in the country.HappyHour@TheBreweryOfLife wrote:

Re: jubilee?
Together with friends, me and Mrs Sherlock spent the weekend in London. Though the prime reason was not the Jubilee (we went to see Coldplay at The Emirates), we did join the crowds on the banks of the Thames yesterday and were bl**dy pleased we did - despite the couple we went with being my Irish mate and his French wife. She, well before we walked down to the river, explained how before coming to live in England 10 years ago had never understood why we hang on to a monarchy. But she said it didn't take her long to change her mind, and that she now "totally gets it" and realises that "it is what makes this country what it is - it's what makes Britain great!"
I couldn't have put it better myself.
PS. As for being one referendum away from a Republic, I think you'll find a recent poll showed 80% support for the monarchy.

Re: jubilee?
Also watched the Jubilee Pageant on the Thames opposite the London Eye....
...And, unlike most people who (understandably) disappeared soon after the Queen passed by, I stayed right to the last boat - the London Philharmonic playing the Dam Busters March close to the RAF Memorial...
...And got absolutely soaked.
But it was a great afternoon.

Re: jubilee?
Still recovering from Sats sunburn so I watched it on TV yesterday .. wished I was there cos you never see the effect of sounds & colours unless your there.
Off to the party in our local park Mewsbrook this afternoon. They have a 25ft screen for tonight's Buckingham House concert. Then we go light the Beacon on the seafront in Littlehampton.
My motto is.. make the most while you have it before some little oike comes along and spoils it cos he thinks everything has to change since he's been around all of 2 minutes but knows eff all.
