I like the way 0.6 billion was added.
In case 23 billion wouldn't cover.

Re: Now that's a payout...
I mis-read that at first....I thought it said £23m - and even then I thought it ridiculous.
Why does this woman get the money anyway?
Surely she should get awarded according to the way a company not using proper standards of safety might be punished for improper safeguards on machinery or whatever. She's lost his income to the family plus suffered grief....difficult to quantify I know - but multi-billions of compensation...really?
And anyway, if you want to start taking billions from the offending tobacco company, put the money to good use in treating smoking related diseases, surely...and give the woman an award that compensates her in a manner consistent with other negligence issues.
So give her a couple of million dollars and give the multi-billions to cancer research....I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

Stop looking for solutions to symptoms and start identifying the disease.

Can that company actually afford to pay out that sort of money anyway? I'd have thought even Apple would struggle to find a spare 23 billion stuffed down the back of the sofa. Would it mean huge redundencies or maybe even the company folding, resulting in thousands of people out of work?
It really makes no sense whatsoever.

The figure was apparently decided by a small-town jury. It won't last the first appeal.RubiconCSL wrote:Can that company actually afford to pay out that sort of money anyway? It wont, but those small town hicks actually make good sense if you think about it.HappyHour@TheBreweryOfLife wrote:The figure was apparently decided by a small-town jury. If you find for the complainant and you want to make sure they get their 5 million.....well, start at 26 billion and let the smoke company haggle on down!
