I was wandering through a bookshop yesterday and noticed (with a frisson of pleasure, I'll have to admit) that the books of Kyril Bonfiglioli have been re-published (yes, they're making a film). I loved these books back in the day. Here is a little article about him:-

From that article his 'hero' Charlie sounds like Lovejoy with dark attitude.

I thought for one sweet moment that you had uncovered a replacement striker for the departed Mr Drennon, now back under a dark cloud at Villa Park. I had therefore, not so much a frisson of pleasure, but more the disappointment of a man who had been sold not so much a Bonfiglioli, but more a Malfiglioli......
