2 hostages dead, plus the gunman. Many reports that he was mentally unsound - one of his former lawyers described him as "mad as a cut snake".

Thoughts are with the families of the 2 dead hostages.

Spare a thought, too, for Tony Abbott, Aussie PM - I'd never heard of him before 8th March this year, but since then he's had the vanished Malaysian airliner, Phillip Hughes, and now this to deal with. I'm sure he wasn't expecting all that when he ran for office.
