Re: Election - Will You Vote?
Yes, as it is a postal vote.
If I had to get off my ass and walk/drive to the polling station then maybe not.

Which bunch are promising a referendum on Euro Membership?
And are they going to win?
I wish we had more than 2 parties of any substance........ though I do prefer the direct election of the leader.

Absolutely! Still don't know who for - but I'll vote plus I'll drag my husband down and make him spoil his vote as he doesn't want to vote for anyone. Son home at the moment, who is very politically savvy, and we have just emailed our incumbent asking him of his experience outside of politics and politically linked groups (knowing there is none). Looking forward to his response.

A downside to the Parliamentary system is indeed that the legislature and the executive are always controlled by the same party. The Cincinnati Kid wrote:Which bunch are promising a referendum on Euro Membership?

However, this perpetual authority does mean we never have a 'lame duck' executive.
Furthermore, the vital democratic 'check and balance' is the survival instinct of the MPs, which motivates them away from pissing off the electorate lest we vote them out at the next election.

UKIP, whilst on for about 17% of the vote, are expected to win 1 to 3 seats.HappyHour@TheBreweryOfLife wrote:I think it's going to be a Tory/UKIP coalition. Sheffield Hallam will be interesting to see what happens with Clegg.
They won't decide anything. Lib Dems will get half the votes and win 10x the seats.
It's the nature of our warped voting system.
Re: Election - Will You Vote?
Definitely will vote, just not sure which way yet.
I'm marginally leaning toward the Tories, but the thought of UKIP in the mix makes me want to weep.
And Labour just seem too keen to favour partisan politics over actual policy. Their campaign slogan may as well be 'Not the Tories'.
Also, this answer from Ed Miliband :

Outside of politics what life experience do you have to associate and indicate that you should be the one to represent the people of Britain?
That's real life experience, right there...School of hard knocks and all that...I’ve done a number of things which I think, I hope, are relevant to this.
I was obviously an economic advisor in the Treasury and I think that’s important. I think that’s important because the economy and how we change our economy is at the heart of the country.
I’ve taught. I taught at Harvard University. I actually taught around government and economics and I think that, actually, one of the things that that did for me … [was the ability] to listen and engage with people about what their issues are, what they’re interested in.
"Look, we've all got something to contribute to this discussion. And I think what you should contribute from now on is silence."

Just seen that Labour are going to speed up local devolution, with fiscal powers thrown in, plus they are going to regulate everywhere's buses London-style.
Okay, so I *was* leaning towards blue...

Brilliant. Just what we need - another layer of bureaucracy and opportunities for even more bureaucrats to stick their noses in the trough. We already have local devolution - they're called County/Unitary/Town/Parish councils.HappyHour@TheBreweryOfLife wrote:Just seen that Labour are going to speed up local devolution, with fiscal powers thrown in, plus they are going to regulate everywhere's buses London-style.

They're not adding another layer but evolving and empowering current authorities. The one-size-fits-all approach in England HAS to change, especially with the other nations being given greater autonomy. No Shot Sherlock wrote:Brilliant. It just makes zero sense for countries of 1m-5m receiving greater powers while the one of 55m is still run from the centre.

It's all academic really.
The Large Hadron Collider will create a small black hole sucking in most of SE England thus virtually guaranteeing Labour Govt.
