Just like the Grand Canyon, ten minutes should do it. It sadly has become an over-commercialised tourist trap full of postcard shops, coin pressing machines and fourth-rate museums.

It's a curious feeling standing on the Canadian-side terrace right by the drop of the main falls. The water looks so shallow and seems to move so slowly, you feel you could walk along the top of the falls to the far bank with no problem.

Awesome sight. Make sure you take a pee before standing to watch millions of gallons of water pour past

Been twice and would happily go again, do the tunnels under the falls and the maid of the mist, both give you a feeling of the awesome power of the falls.

Good use of the word awesome, chaps. Highly overused these days - especially by the under 30s but I bet seeing the falls is an awesome experience. Never been but would like to one day. I'd especially like to visit Victoria Falls - in fact, that's next on my list. Anyone been there?

Awesome is a suitable word Ziggy, when standing in the tunnels behind the falls the sheer volume of water in breathtaking, coupled with the fact that i am far to old to use the word awesome in any other way i think it is, well, awesome and well worth a visit :-)

Mrs Selsey and I drove to the Falls when we were staying in Ontario. We happened to be there in the coldest winter they'd had for 30 years (early 90's) and the falls were actually frozen over - the frozen spray on cars, lampposts, etc was more stunning than the falls, which were not really falling!

On a side note, we wanted to visit the States, so we crossed the border and went into Buffalo - probably the biggest dump I've ever been to in my life.

I was fortunate enough to visit Victoria Falls as part of my honeymoon 2 years ago. Unfortunately, we went during the dry season in September. So the falls on the Zambian side (which is where we stayed) were not as spectacular as they could have been. Although the Zimbabwe half of the falls still looked very impressive. So suggest going in the wet season (March & April). Although pricey, we took a helicopter above the falls then down into the canyons, which I thoroughly recommend! We also went on a boat trip that took us into the rock pools under the falls. The trek down to the water's edge was challenging, but more interestingly and unbeknown to us, the pools were crocodile infested! If I had known that, I would not have signed up for the boat trip!

One further point of note is the cliff top walks to view the falls are full of baboons and I mean 100's of them. They are harmless enough, but they do walk right up to you looking for food, so can be a little disconcerting at times. Especially as baboons are known to be the most aggressive out of all the primates.

6hrs, where di you get that from, i have not been for a few years but i am pretty sure it ain't 6hrs long :-) Less than an hour i would say from recolection, but worth every penny and they even provide you with a fetching plastic mac if you dont want to get soaked :-)

Been twice , simply stunning . Happily go again . Agree with ppfc , Maid of the mist and tunnel under the falls are a must . Also things I consider a must are the Niagara helicopter ride , the museum / info centre ( you must see the film ) and in the summer seeing them flood lit at night !!!!! Also do your self a favour and visit Niagara on the lake , the proper town . If you get time , visit a vineyard and treat yourself to a bottle of Ice Wine :thumb

Oh and agree with ppfc that no way is the boat ride 6 hours , unless the engine fails ! More like an hour or so .

Just read hh post . When I was there it onlynhad one museum / centre . I am sure you will love it though . Yes standing by the water iscacweird feeling .
