OT: Upgrade to Windows 10 or not
So, Microsoft keep reminding me that I can upgrade to Windows 10 (from current Windows 7 Pro) free of charge.
Machine is a Dell Latitude E6530 with i5-3320M CPU @ 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM and 64-bit OS.
Question is, should I or should I not?

Go for it. It's basically worth the upgrade even if your kit is old and knackered like mine.
My laptop seems a little faster after the upgrade....however....
.....check there is there a Win 10 driver for your printer. Had to replace my old faithful printer because of this.

Cheers Earl. I have a Lexmark CS510 colour laser. Seems there is a compatible driver.
My concern is whether the benefits to be gained are worth the hassle of learning the new look/layout?

Re: OT: Upgrade to Windows 10 or not
Good morning, NSS,
I would say go for the upgrade. My laptop used to take about 10 minutes to be usable after being booted up under W7, but now it's quicker than the desktop - a minute at most.
It's typical Microsoft, unable to get 2 consecutive Windows releases right. XP was good, Vista not. W7 good, W8 not. W10 is good. There is not actually that much different to W7, except the Start menu looks like W8, but in a W7 size popup.
There are a few odd things that happen with certain upgrades. After one upgrade, it lost the ability to display a network, but the solutions to that are easily Googlable.
I have both laptop and desktop at home on W10, and 5 out of 6 desktops at work on it (the 6th is still on XP, as it's VERY old, but does the job that is asked of it).

Re: OT: Upgrade to Windows 10 or not
Cheers Locky, that makes me feel a bit better about upgrading.
I hated having to give up XPpro (and still have it on my old laptop as there's a program I occasionally need that won't run under later OS) but have gotten used to W7.
I see they say you can revert to W7 withing 30 days if you don't like 10 so perhaps I'll give it a go.

I kept getting them and thought it was a scam, but turns out it was not !
Upgraded for free and its considerably better, faster starting and shutting down and I even for some reason got a bit of additional disc space back so assume the operating system takes up less room !
Its been very stable as well and no issues to date, go for it

Yeah, I found the same thing. They must've written more bits of it in machine code (?) rather than some horrific high-level language that swamps the HDD with rubbish doing jobs slowly and less well than a succinct piece of well written code.Portchester PFC wrote:I even for some reason got a bit of additional disc space back so assume the operating system takes up less room !

I agree with the other posters. I was dubious at first but I am glad I did.

Re: OT: Upgrade to Windows 10 or not
I finally found a spare minute (well, a couple of hours actually) to upgrade. At least, thankfully, everything seems to be where I left it, but why on earth does it come with a Cortina? It's not even a Lotus or 1600E

Re: OT: Upgrade to Windows 10 or not
Too many people have had various problems with the upgrade. My professional advice is no! Wait until the bugs are sorted give it another 3 months.
