You can take the man out of Pompey
But you can`t take Pompey out of the man
But you can`t take Pompey out of the man

Re: v Carlisle Team
After all the positive build up......... Pompey do what Pompey do best, concede a goal with Carlisle's first attempt at goal....

23 shots at target, 9 on target, produces 1 Goal.
Opposition has 2 shots at target, 1 on target, resulting in 1 goal.
What do they practice pre-season ?
I did notice Webster played at full back for Ipswich today. Didn`t they watch him play there ?

Well it was a bit low key IMHO. Started off well & created a couple of chances but the goal against really knocked the stuffing out of us. Our equalizer came a bit out of the blue but perked us up.Berkshire Blue wrote:BFTG anyone? - it would be appreciated.
2nd half they took parking the bus to new levels, literally! A line of Carlisle players on the edge of their box but we lacked movement up top. Hate to single out a player but Smith was poor, lack of movement & instinct & seemingly no nouse. I saw him play well last season & he did miss some of pre season so far too early to write him off.
Plusses for me were Baker, Lalkovic (looked excellent), Rose all looked a step up on last season. Forde had very little to do but did what he did competently.
Nothing to get too down about overall, we created some decent chances, their goalie pulled off some great saves & Rose smashed one against the post. Just wasn't going to go in.
Whatmough looked ring rusty, this was just his 2nd proper game in 16months so some way to go before we see the pre injury Jack. But the most noticeable thing with him was a lack of pace that he used to have, I'm hoping the injury hasn't robbed him of it so early in his career.
If I was giving the team marks out of 10 I would say 6.5/10. Ref gets 8/10-decent performance by him, tried to let the game flow.

He never had any pace it was just that those around him were even slower!pompeygunner wrote:Well it was a bit low key IMHO.
