When the fixtures came out I always thought Pompey had quite a tough start to the season: Carlisle, Colchester, Wycombe, Barnet and Doncaster at home (5 out of 6) and Crewe, Morecombe, Accrington, Exeter, Blackpool, Leyton Orient and Plymouth all away
Pompey have come through this part of the season - and the most difficult section (Donny (h), Orient (a) and Plymouth (a)) - in 4th. Could have been better but not a disaster!
I know nothing is won on paper and the away game at Luton (nov 22nd) is a tough game but Pompey really have a great opportunity to put together a very strong run between now and New Years. During this period Pompey play Notts County, Mansfield, Stevenage and Hartlepool at home and Cambridge, Cheltenham, Luton, Grimsby, Newport and Yeovil away.
That's ten games where I think Pompey should be targeting at least 7 wins. If Pompey can put 24 or more points up between now and New Year's Day then they should be in the top 3 going into the second half of the season.
Time for Cook and Pompey to be ruthless and to seize the opportunity
