India v Eng - 1st Test

Post by Weybridge »

Very difficult series this one. India at home is tough enough anyway, but they're also top of the Test rankings right now.

A few notables for England too :

Broad gets his 100th cap.
Cook gets a record 54th cap as England Captain.
2nd youngest England debutant in the shape of Haseeb Hameed, aged just 19.

Good day for the underdogs. Root is going to be up there as an all time great and Moeen has had a good few months. Big day tomorrow. Need to go on from here to put ourselves in a position where we at least can't lose.

Please England no early disasters tomorrow. Do that & we'll be in a very strong position. Today went completely against what most pundits thought, really decent 1st day on a pitch that will deteriorate the longer it goes.
Cmon England.

England 537 all out; and we will take tea.

England achieving the basic requirement when batting first in India of continuing well into the second day. Obviously a good score, but it is difficult to judge what par score would have been given the number of catches dropped by India. I suspect that to win this England are going to have to bowl well and hang onto everything.

I think you're right Jasp.

I can't see England making a sporting game of this one. I think Stokes/Bairstow/Moeen will be 3,4 and 5 tomorrow, and we'll smash India out of a result in the first session. Ten wickets in the final two sessions? Unlikely I reckon.

On the plus side, Australia 85 all out.

Cook has scored more Test centuries in India then any other visiting batsman apparently. No mean feat!

Lovely !

South Africa thrashed Australia by an innings and 80 runs in Hobart to win the three-Test series with a match to spare.

It is South Africa's third successive Test series win in Australia, following victories in 2008-09 and 2012-13.

Resuming on 121-2, Australia lost 8-32 inside 20 overs as they were bowled out for 161 on the fourth morning.

"I am embarrassed. We've lost five Tests in a row and that's humiliating," said Australia captain Steve Smith.

I get the impression with Australia that they are going through transition again. In the 1st test Siddle was bowling & that for me means the bowling is a little threadbare. Starc is exceptional & Hazelwood a dependable bowler but beyond that?? Also Smith seems to have that familiar problem with captaincy affecting his batting.
England could be going there next winter @ exactly the right time if Hameed continues his development & one of our spinners comes to the fore.
Anyway FAF thats 5 they've lost on the trot. :rofl
