Re: Southgate
I'm not sure if I really care about the England managers job particularly. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see us do well in tournaments but I just cannot ever see it happening. There's something in the English mentality that means even the greatest manager in the world would struggle to make them a success. So just give the job to a cheap option and give him a chance.

Re: Southgate
I'm not sure about Southgate but he deserves a chance after all the years of shipping in the 'best available' manager. Spain, Italy and Germany don't have the best managers in their respective countries as national manager. (In fact I can't name the Italian and can't spell the Spanish fella's name

Re: Southgate
As a player, Southgate played well (before the penalty!) in a major tournament semi-final. Something no previous England manager has done. He also made the absolute most out of the ability that he had, both for club and country.
As a manager, Southgate did a reasonable job with age group sides. Certainly performing better than the senior team. Had to deal with endless drop outs and non-availability of his best players. No great record as a club manager, but he isn't being appointed to be a club manager, but the very different job of an international manager.
I have no great hope for England, but if he keeps it simple then Southgate has as much chance as anyone. Let's give him a proper opportunity.

Re: Southgate
I hope they bring someone with an older head alongside him, still can't get too excited about England football at the moment.

Re: Southgate
look....he might do well....who knows.
But its about the most uninspiring / unexciting / unawesome managerial appointment ever innit.
This says: Hey world!....the best....the very best....the very very best that England can do is:.....Gareth Southgate!!!
"thud".....(sound of cheerleaders dropping their batons and shuffling off)
