Fun Fixture List
Just for a bit of fun I've done today's fixtures in nickname format.
Had to look most of them up...
Must admit I thought Grimsby were the Trawlermen but apparently they're simply the Mariners.
Bees v Red Devils
Cumbrians v U's
U's v Pompey
Railwaymen v Exiles
Donny v Robins
Grecians v Stanley
O's v Mariners
Hatters v The Boro
Stags v Pilgrims
Shrimps v Glovers
Magpies v Monkey Hangers
Chairboys v Tangerines

Re: Fun Fixture List
I'm not convinced we even have a nickname....not sure Pompey qualifies as one does it?....its really just a short for the city name.
We need something catchy

Div III. Call it what it is.

I can see me doing this every week now.....until we lose, anyway.
As for OUR nickname, I think Pompey is fair enough. It's surprising how many people don't even know it's a nickname for the city, too.
What's it for Cincinnati? Blue chip city?

Just a bit long, Cinci. Needs some reference to one of the famous people who were born or made their name on Portsea Island. The Cincinnati Kid wrote:ONLYSOUTHCOASTTEAMWITH4MAJORTROPHYERS

What about:
No Shots - it's a tortuous connection but apply to the eponymous poster (who contributes regularly on here) for details.
Pythons - ref to Monty (Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alamein) who was elected President of Pompey in 1944 and oversaw us win two League Championships.
Clouseaus - after the character Peter Sellers made so famous...Sellers, of course, was born in Southsea.
Isambards - after Isambard Kingdom Brunel, born in Pompey and "one of the most ingenious and prolific figures in engineering history".
Manfreds - after Manfred Mann the pop group who were locally connected in some way e.g. lead singer Paul Jones was born in Pompey.
Duprees - after Simon Dupree and the Big Sound, another pop group locally connected and famous for one of the most inventive recordings of its day, "Kites". They also temporarily had Elton John as part of the group but he was shipped out because they didn't like his compositions!!!
Dickens - after Charles, born in Pompey.
