It's now official.

Right, let's move on. At least he didn't go down the road :)

Looks like Mark Catlin and the club have done everything they could to keep him. But - and I applaud them for it - they are not going to break the bank for anyone.

Sensibly, they were already pursuing plan B (presumably for some time, since the rumours started and since his odds for moving dropped to 10 to 1 on!), just in case. So, as they have already approached potential replacements, it should be reasonably quick to get the right person in. At least we also get a few quid from his remaining contract.

If you have the time, I warmly recommend watching Mark Catlin's comments on the Paul Cook departure and the Tornante takeover in the following You Tube video:

We're lucky to have Mr Catlin IMO - sensible, balanced and forward-looking.

Quite right SB. In a job reference it's sometimes more telling what is not said rather than what is!! Thought that statement was very curt and to the point!!! I for one will not miss him and if we can appoint Kenny Jackett think that would be about as good a move we could have wished for. 8)

I agree this could be a huge blessing in disguise. I thank PC for getting us out of that bl**dy L2. But if we really do want to move on, then we probably needed a better manager in the short rather than long term. He did what was required of him and has given the club the opportunity to part and move on. I know when you get to the Prem, the wages you hear managers getting are enormous. But this is nowhere like the Prem and 7k a week was him being a bit of a chancer I think.

Well done Mark Catlin.

Just watched it. His attitude seems to be one where he just gets on with it no matter what's thrown at him.

Highly impressive given the pressure he must be under at the moment.

Feel free to headhunt our Mr Puel , he has some interesting qualities and situations and a great playing formation-go for it- you have a history with Reggie Perrin and I didn't like him either for some reason.

Quick quiz question. There have only ever been 6 French managers in English football. Two of them are named above - can you name the other 4 ?

I suspect that Mark Catlin is the most valuable member of staff at Pompey, losing him would be the biggest blow of all. What a sensible and honest guy, a very safe pair of hands it seems!
