For another year to take it to 2020.

Now that really is very good news indeed.

At least we'll get good money for him if / when he goes, unlike Enda.

Summer £1million rising to £2million would be my prediction.

Eisner says that his plan is to keep good young players, so it will be interesting to see what happens when the bids start to roll in.

Yes, but it may not be totally down to Eisner. If we don't even make the play-offs and don't look like we have much ambition on getting out of L1 (which currently we don't), you couldn't blame the player for wanting to move on and ply his trade at a higher level and with higher wages. It is after all a potentially very short career.

Like many, trust few and always paddle you own canoe.

I appreciate that if a player (and/or his agent) want to go it is hard to stop them, but if it is known that we don't want to cash in on him it may generate a higher price. On the other hand he is getting consistent game time with us and is steadily improving, so he may decide to stay one more season and have a chance of walking straight into a higher division club's team rather than warming the bench next season. However, as you say, it is a short career and no one knows when a serious injury could disrupt or even end it.

No way would he sign a contract that doesn't include a release clause he sees as favorable.

This makes sense all round. Gives us two more years of Clarke, which is probably the sort of timescale during which we should be pushing towards the Championship. If we don't make it, then Clarke will be 23 (going on 24) at the start of the 2020-21 season and it will be time for him to move on, and we could look at a January sale to get some return. Of course, and as always, we won't be standing in the way if a player is determined to move, especially if we get a fair offer through a good release clause.
