Re: Vince Hilaire article
I used to love Vince Hilaire.
I can remember going to Leeds when he was still with us. I've never heard such appalling racism, even for those days. It sounded as if the whole ground was making monkey noises at him and Noel Blake. It made me feel sick.
The ironic thing, is that when Bally left us and went to Leeds, he took Vince Hilaire with him and he was probably then their hero. How he ever managed to like it there after the abuse I just don't know. Presumably money talks

Bally never managed Leeds. Hilaire left the club in the summer of 88 (he was signed by Billy Bremner) and Bally was sacked in January 89.RubiconCSL wrote:The ironic thing, is that when Bally left us and went to Leeds, he took Vince Hilaire with him

Re: Vince Hilaire article
Fair point! But Vince and Noel did go to Leeds and it was after that appalling abuse.

Bally did take Hilaire to Stoke and Exeter. Bally also took Blake to Stoke.RubiconCSL wrote:Fair point! Re: Vince Hilaire article
I don't know about Leeds but the racist chants at FP were pretty damn bad back in those days. Interesting take on that though....it was like people would totally racially abuse the opposition at a football game but you would never hear a racist word out of their mouths at any other time! It's like anything goes to put the opposition off their game at a footy match but normal proper behavior is resumed after 90 minutes (plus injury time of course). It wasn't a whole lot different for wimin in the street at away games, referees wives or ginger goalkeepers.
Oh well.....at least we've moved on for the most part.
Hopefully its still ok to abuse ginger keepers....they deserve it you know.
