Anton Walkes

Post by Berkshire Blue »

Looks like Anton Walkes is going to be signed on a permanent basis.

In my opinion it would be a good signing, as I thought that he did well whilst he was on loan to us.

I have been quite impressed with Walkes, so I'm quite happy with this signing. He can cover a few positions as well...

He's an ok midfielder but a poor right back.

Anyone know why Walkes has to return to Spuds when pre season starts ? Everything I’ve read indicates he has definitely singed for us on a permanent deal.

Perhaps everything you've read is wrong? The Snooze have never actually said that he has signed, just that it will happen, both clubs and the player want it to happen. Until the ink is on the paper, he's still a Spuds player, and therefore would have to report to their pre-season, not ours.

Squad shirt numbers have been released and I see that shirt 2 has not yet been allocated to anyone. Is it being saved for someone?

Could easily be.

Walkes trained with Pompey last week, the official line being that we were allowed to complete his rehabilitation from the hamstring injury from last season. That's the first time I've seen a loanee's injury being seen to by the loan club, not the parent club, so tbh, I call bulls..t on that.

He has not gone to Ireland, though.

The suspicion is that he will do a pre-season tour in the States with Spurs whilst their world cup players are resting and then transfer to Pompey.

Signed at last and been given the number 2 shirt. Good signing - I liked him at right back, and I think I liked him just as much if not more as a holding midfielder. He is only 21 so it will be interesting to see how he develops.

Better in midfield for me. From what I saw of him, his positional sense wasn't great when at RB. He is lightning quick though, and build like a brick **** house so I agree, a good signing :thumb

Significantly better in midfield. He didn't impress me at all as a right back but I guess he has the attributes....just needs to read the game better at RB.
Still, he's young and with guidance should develop into a useful squad member.
