Just putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with five I know but some facts:
Pittman is not going to be happy being on the sub bench. He is a competitive senior player and didn't leave Ipswich to ride the pine at Pompey.
Pittman was rumoured to be linked to Glasgow Rangers earlier in the window and since he scored 25 goals or so last year in League 1 would be desired player for a decent side.
Pittman has shown his feelings recently towards management by throwing his training top in frustration when being subbed vs Wimbledon.
Pittman was absent from training today at FP and was not involved in the reserves game vs Swindon. He was reportedly unwell....as was KJ.
Catlin has given an interview to the News today and said no one player is bigger than the club. Chaplin is referenced in the article.
The transfer window (for loans) closes on Friday.
now some speculation:
Perhaps Pittman was asked to play 90mins on Tuesday vs Swindon over the weekend and refused. Since Chaplin is likely to move this week if Pompey can get another striker in then Chaplin would not have risked injury in the game vs Swindon. If Pittman said - non - to the swindon match fitness game then Pompey would be sans striker for this game and would necessitate calling Dan Smith back from loan......and since that happened on Saturday .....and Pompey are silent to Bognor Regis about whether Smith is going to be loaned back I am calling BS on the "Pittman is unwell" story. How did Pompey know that Pittman would be ill 72 hours before he was! If this true can Pompey tell me the lotto numbers please for this weekend.
If there is trouble with Pittman behind the scenes then it may be in everyone's interest for him to be moved this week - at least until the January window. Maybe Pompey can loan two strikers and ship out both Pittman and Chaplin? Hawkins, Curtis, Lowe, Smith, Wheeler and one loanee could probably see them through if Pittman is being a real pain in the butt.
I don't buy the KJ is ill .....at the same time as Pittman ...... story, either. Move likely he was either on the phone talking to clubs, talking to the Board of Directors or talking to potential loan players/agents about joining Pompey than attending training today at FP and if something was in the works then the .....they are ill .....story works. Funny that they are both ill on the same day ....four days before the transfer window shuts for four months!?!
Perhaps Caitlin is sending a message in his artile to Pittman not Chaplin......the club is bigger than one player because it seems a strange message to send to Conor Chaplin who is Pompey through and through and wouldn't want away if he was playing first team football regularly at 21 years old. Chaplin said his mind wasn't right for the game vs Donny but is that really that surprising? Pompey have told him he can/will leave by Friday for several weeks if they can replace him! (hardly warrants the CEO sending a public reminder about club over player when he says the speculation has unsettled him....he is only 21 and this would be his first move (I don't recall him ever being loaned either) Wouldn't the message be more appropriate to say, a high wage earner who is in their late 20s and has played and scored in the Championship....... and who is the club captain.... Mmmm, is this a message to Pittman to stop being a distraction behind closed doors because he is not first choice right now dressed up in Chaplin clothing then it makes a lot more sense to me.
Now you have read my conspiracy theory re-read Catlin's article in the Snooze and notice he mentions "individuals" having to put the club first rather than individual and that he "doesn't want to talk about Chaplin individually because it applies to all players in the squad!" https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/foot ... -1-8616893
We shall see how this plays out during the week but I won't fall off my chair if Pittman and Chaplin are shipped out on loan this week.
thoughts? Whilst I pop off to LIDAR the grassy knoll
