Re: Pompey vs Burton Albion
Finished 2-2.
Not for the first time, Pompey's dominance in the first ten minutes did not deliver a winning lead.
Burton came out with renewed drive after half time and scored twice. Great fightback from Pompey to find a draw.
Burton have some talented players. We're not going to win every game.

Re: Pompey vs Burton Albion
Just back after a quick return along the M27 which is a nightmare on weekday mornings. This was one of the best matches at Fratton Park this season. Pompey played well with a lot of energy but Burton were dangerous on breakaways and probably deserved their point. Ben Thompson excelled again and the crowd played their part after the shock of Burtons' two quick goals.Let's hope we keep up the away record on Saturday.

Re: Pompey vs Burton Albion
Back in Hampshire visiting family so managed to get to the game tonight.
Apart from a crazy 5 mins after half-time where we fell asleep defensively, Burton didn't show much and we should really have won. I think a turning point for us in the first half was Donahue getting injured and being replaced by Evans - it meant that Thompson dropped back into a holding midfield position from attacking midfield. That was a shame as Thompson was playing very well there and posed a constant threat. Maybe Close on for Donahue in hindsight would have been less disruptive to our momentum.
However we're a decent team, top of the league, and still to hit top form with players such as Mason, Green, Wheeler and Dennis still to play a part. Can't help but be optimistic about the rest of the season!

As much as I like Gareth Evans when Deon went off we lot a lot of ball playing nouse and looked hardworking rather than cultured.
It's was a dossapointed to start to the second half and we should really have won. I thought both Lowe and Curtis were pretty ineffective and we never really looked like scoring once pitman was on and we just hoofed it long.
Don't understand why we didn't make a final change.
Overall though a good result in the end.

Guy Whittingham on the radio commentary made exactly the same comment about the difference made by Donahue versus Evans.Pompey1985 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 24, 2018 8:02 am As much as I like Gareth Evans when Deon went off we lot a lot of ball playing nouse and looked hardworking rather than cultured.

Donahue was reported to have come off clutching his hamstring. He's had a tough time with injuries recently according to the radio. Wish him well for a speedy recovery.
We might be top of Div 1 but there is clearly still plenty of work to do.
And was it Scunthorpe who were top of Div 1 at Christmas last year but only just made the play-offs? Or have I got that wrong?

Re: Pompey vs Burton Albion
The slow start to the 2nd half undid all the good work of the 1st sadly. I don't know if the players all took a sleeping pill @ ht but honestly they were half asleep. Burton had the freedom of the pitch to run @ us. Woeful stuff really & took their 2nd goal to wake us up. That shouldn't be the case, we should be on it for the whole 90mins.
Also thought that 1st 10min spell we let them off the hook, they were all over the shop. Really the team only had themselves to blame for not punishing them when on top then allowing them back into it so spectacularly.
But it made for a absorbing game.
