Sad news, and 57 is no age. Condolences to his family.

Gutted (also same age as me ) remember him well, a real demon in our midfield, certainly in my all time Pompey 11. RIP Mick

Yes, Mick Kennedy would also be in my favourite Pompey XI (easily). The heart of Alan Ball's teams of the mid-80s, and a real blow when he was sold for a few pounds. I predict a massive minute's applause in a couple of weeks.
RIP Mick; there will be a place for you on Ballie's right hand.

When Kennedy got sold Pompey went downhill....bit like when Ben Thompson went back last month!

Without a doubt, one of my all time favourite Pompey players. Boy, could we do with someone like him in our midfield right now

Re: R I P Mick Kennedy
My very first introduction to Mick Kennedy was at Salisbury in a pre season friendly in early August 1984. Pompey had won the ball in midfield and it was played out towards the left flank. Paul Hardyman was confidently moving forward to take possession when he was stopped in his tracks by a loud bark of " F**k off" from the middle. As the young full back ground to a halt our new signing Mick Kennedy steamed across onto the ball and scampered forward with it. I immediately thought "This guy is a winner" . We won the game 2-0 , both goals from Scott McGarvey ( a rarity in itself) but it was Kennedy's prescence in midfield that I remember most. I always thought Kennedy did so much unseen work , breaking up play , little foot in challenges , closing people down. You noticed him more when he was suspended and no-one was doing what he did , and the opposition had so much more time in the middle of the park. RIP Mick , one the best Pompey players I ever had the fortune of watching.

Re: R I P Mick Kennedy
Got to be the 'hardest' player I have ever seen in a Pompey shirt. He wouldn't stay on the pitch for 10 minutes nowadays with what he was dishing out , the best ball-winner we ever had, good distribution too and he could cross a mean ball. Who could forget his inch perfect cross from the right on to Alan Biley's head for that 'Father Christmas' goal v. Oxford in stoppage time.

This might have passed some of you by, but a chap I follow on Twitter, Carl Miller @Milo_PFC , started a fundraiser to help towards Mick's funeral a couple of days ago with an initial target of £3,000. Two days on it now stands at £5,290. Makes you feel proud to be part of the Pompey family:

One of the last of the traditional hard men of the game - he will be missed, RIP.
