Take a look here:

https://www.southwesternrailway.com/pla ... ial-action

On strike days they provide a severely restricted service and publish details on their website very close to the day.

I have given up travelling by train to matches. Once I sorted out where to park and when to arrive to avoid congestion I have found it more convenient to drive.

Thanks - I'd found that. It's the close to the dates that poses the problem. Being a former Northern Rail commuter I know the hassle this causes.

My military like plan for getting down has been thrown into chaos. Reckon my best approach is turn up at Waterloo as planned check the times before piling into the Hole in the wall. Or not.

Agreed. I had to check the day before. It was a skeleton service that would have got me home after 8pm compared with 6pm travelling by car. Good luck.

Generally, on a strike day, tickets are acceptable on any reasonable alternative service. They might not be keen on you going from Paddington to Bristol, to get the GWR from Bristol to Pompey, but VIC-FRA instead of WAT-FRA should be fine.

Thanks - I'd just seen this myself.

Back to the original plan of an hour in the hole in the wall and a chip butty.
