Coventry

Post by Berkshire Blue »

Can't make it to the match today, so I will watch on Sky in a state of zen like calm.

However, in case this disintegrates into hysteria after about 30 seconds (as I know it will), I will shut door to try to keep out wife/dog/grandchildren, thereby avoiding being chastised for swearing or (hopefully) scaring dog/younger grandchildren by shouting loudly when we score.

I have been supporting Pompey all my life, and after over 70 years it doesn't get any less stressful!

Job done!
And with Blunderland & Barnsley both away later it could be a very good day.

Wow! They really ground that out and showed terrific character. As the commentator said - a game of two halves.

One of my rare visits to the Park today. We got out of jail big time and were very fortunate not to be 2 or 3 down at half time (mainly thanks to Thompson's goal line block). The second half didn't start much better and with 60 minutes gone I just couldn't see us scoring. Coventry were robbed, but that's football I guess :thumb

Barnsley three up and cruising. Was hoping a long Bank Holiday trip to Plymouth would have an effect, but evidently not.

Looking like we’re going to need every last point of the nine available!

Could use Donny picking up three points tomorrow too to help get Peterborough out of the running by the time we play them.

I can't work out if I should be lauding the way we played two games badly, but still managed to grind out 6pts as a positive or whether it should scare the crap out of me for next season if we keep going and get prmomoted. Clearly, the squad has got the mentallity to know now how to win games - even when we've no right to do so - which is the mark of the great teams. But on the flip side, we will get ripped to pieces next season without some serious investment.

Well, Blunderlnd dropped 2 pts so all in all, a good day.

Interesting to note the race for auto promotion between us and Barnsley mirrors the Prem title race. 1 team 2 pts behind with a game in hand and no slip-ups allowed.

I thought Coventry's No 24 Bright Enobakhare looked a very useful player today. Was at the heart of everything good that they did . Definitely one to keep an eye on for future reference

Yeah, very skilful and a quick turn of pace - as long as he had a bit of room. When we started closing him down though, he lost possession more often than not. Even Close was nudging him off the ball.

Thought he bossed the first half but, as Weybridge said, was less eye-catching in the second half. Actually thought their left back (Mason) was also influential but that was as much to do with the fact that we played so narrow which gave him license to bomb forward at every opportunity.

Remember that this is a Coventry team that scored five away to Sunderland. They are a very good attacking side, especially on good fast pitches and both FP and the SoL were excellent surfaces for them to play on. A couple of good signings to toughen them up for the winter months and I think Coventry will be a real promotion threat next season. In some ways, they are where we were a year ago.

As to the game, I just wanted to add that I thought Nathan Thompson was excellent throughout. From when he arrived as a maybe CB/maybe FB he has become a really good RB and has also cut out a lot of the rash challenges that used to get him into trouble. I think he will be gone unless we get promoted, and if this happens I hope he thanks Jackett/Gallen on his way out for the part they must have played in his development.

I have lost count of the number of times that the opposing team has dominated the first half of games this season. And we have then come back in the second half to either win or draw.

Surely this can't be the normal way to win games? Or am I missing something?
