New South Stand Roof etc
Pompey have submitted planning permission for alterations to the roof of the South Stand. These involve the replacement, improvement and enlargement of the existing television camera gantry, together with 8 new floodlight columns and other associated floodlighting.-

Bugger, I'd really hoped the owners wouldn't be spending any more on 'mend and make do' projects.

That looks like a lot of money to spend. What does it actually achieve and could that money be spent better elsewhere - like a decent striker perhaps?

This significant investment suggests, to me at least, that the owners are thinking of staying at our existing site rather than moving to a totally new stadium.

Wasn't this one of the problems of the PL era? Money spent on players (good & bad), but nothing on infrastructure, which left us with long term issues concerning the ground and lack of training facilities. This left the Trust and the Eisners playing catch-up, and we will continue to feel the effects for more years yet.RubiconCSL wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 9:38 am That looks like a lot of money to spend. I hope that they also find money at some point to create decent facilities (not at pitch level) for our disabled supporters.

Just a thought Sherl, perhaps Sky et al would be more likely to televise more games if they had better filming facilities which would equal a good ROI?No Shot Sherlock wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 8:45 am Bugger, I'd really hoped the owners wouldn't be spending any more on 'mend and make do' projects.

Jeez, what is the obsession with staying at Fratton Park? You'll never make a silk purse from a sow's ear. The only way we'll ever have a decent stadium that provides income opportunities year-round is to stop wasting money patching up the crumbling pile that is Fratton Park, bulldoze it and start afresh, so why not build a new stadium somewhere more accessible and then flog PO4 8RA for housing. I fail to see how any other option provides a sustainable future for the club.Locky_McLockface wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 1:39 pmThis, in today's Snooze, may go some way to explainNo Shot Sherlock wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 8:45 am Bugger, I'd really hoped the owners wouldn't be spending any more on 'mend and make do' projects.

So where would somewhere be?

Horsea Island, Farlington, Tipnor, Port Solent, Eastern Road, ROKO/PRFC, Langston Campus.....
... and if none of the above work then bulldoze Fratton Park, groundshare for a season or two and rebuild.

That's my preference - short term inconvenience but long term benefit of being still at Fratton and in the heart of the city. It worked for Spurs. No Shot Sherlock wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 7:43 pm ... and if none of the above work then bulldoze Fratton Park, groundshare for a season or two and rebuild.

Re: New South Stand Roof etc
Think if you want long term success and crowds of 40k...you gotta be on the northern edge of the city, on the motorway and the rail line.
That said....if the roof where you live is leaking, you gotta fix it regardless of whether or not yer new mansion is under construction.
Has anyone ever put a $$$$ value on selling the Fratton Park land?

Both Farlington and Langstone Campus have been previously considered, and the Canada Geese scuppered both.No Shot Sherlock wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 7:43 pmHorsea Island, Farlington, Tipnor, Port Solent, Eastern Road, ROKO/PRFC, Langston Campus.....

We should have built on the airfield on Eastern Road when we had our chance way back when.
