Feels like we are trying to shop in a different supermarket this summer, spending a bit of money but targeting players who other, bigger boys want. As such we must be prepared to lose out.
We aren't the biggest fish in the pond were looking to hunt in this year.
Suspect there will be a few Mo Isa type sagas hopefully we get a few good players over the line anyway.

Re: This Summer's Targets
According to the News, Paul Downing (ex-Doncaster but free transfer?) and George Edmundson (Oldham) are targets: neither of them cheap and both with good reputations.
But PFC have a more fundamental player recruitment problem.
If both Clarke and Lowe are sold for the rumoured sums (£5 million total?), then the club will have a significant sum to invest in new players. But there is a risk that the sales may come too late in the transer window to pick up the best new players.
It will be interesting to see what level of target transfer risk is acceptable for Tornante.

Re: This Summer's Targets
We need a CB anyway to cover Whatmough's injury, so only one of Downing and Edmundson is a "risk". If, for whatever reason, we end up keeping Clarke (and that is a slim chance), we would probably loan out Burgess to free up the wages budget, on the basis that Clarke would go in January anyway. I would imagine Tornante would be capable of covering the few weeks of overspend in between signing the second of those two and losing Clarke.
