I remember that Donny said that one club had offered Downing wages that were extraordinary and that they couldn't compete......

wouldn't it be refreshingly honest for Downing to say Pompey clearly wanted me and made me an offer I couldn't refuse (and other clubs couldn't afford to match)....and they are ambitious and want to get to the Championship, have a good manager and great fans etc....
