Team for tonight
So, do we play the kids (at least that way there'll be an excuse for an humiliating defeat) or give the 'first' team a chance to prove they're not total *****?

Got to be a strong side. Problems need sorting out.

Best available side required - whatever that is. As NF said, they need games to gel as a team..

It's the Stripys!!
Absolutely the best available side needs to be on that field. I suspect they might have one or two changes but we have to put our best out there.
No shame in defeat to a prem side but we cant have a drubbing on record.

Re: Team for tonight
Strongest team available. I'm hoping KJ is playing mind games and that Tom Naylor will be fit, and even better than that, Marcus Harness also. I would also play Gareth Evans tonight bearing in mind what he thinks of our neighbours!!
My team would be:
Big Mac
Haunstrup - Burgess - Downing - Evans
McCrorie - Naylor
Williams - Harness if fit, if not Cannon - Curtis
Marquis
Subs: Bass, Pitman, Hawkins, Bolton, Close, ?,?

Re: Team for tonight
Selsey Bill, From your line-up I assume that you were showing Evans as right back. As far as I can recall he played almost a complete season successfully at right back under Paul Cook but has never played there for Jackett, with Thompson a specialist right back preferred. I don't think Harness is fit enough to play yet, so would prefer Evans out wide on the right as he was very bright out there in the second half when he came on against Burton.
Its a gamble playing Downing given that Hawkins was preferred last Saturday. Downing's confidence looked shot away in the last home game v. Burton. But is it too much to ask Hawkins to play v. a Premiership team given his lack of experience on Centre half.

Re: Team for tonight
I reckon Jackett has got until the end of October to sort things out. (Giving any new manager a couple of months before the transfer window opens to assess the team status). That's 6 League 1 games (3H, 3A), a trip to Oxford in the EFL Trophy, and a freebie tonight in the League Cup.
Which is to say, it's time for Jackett to pick his best team (injuries allowing) in all those games and live or die by his choice. Almost the worst thing to happen would be a mixed bag of results from yet more random team selections with players out of position, sending a clear message that he has no idea what he is doing.

I don't think jackett has the foggiest idea what his best team is .Berkshire Blue wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 9:50 am Best available side required - whatever that is. As NF said, they need games to gel as a team..

Re: Team for tonight
We did Kev the Kitman to do the pre-game talk to hype the team. I don't think KJ deep down cares how passionate the fans are for a win, he will do what he does and get the paycheck. The interview during the week was so lacking in passion I do wonder if he can project it to the team.
I look forward to watching the game on ESPN+ out here and really believe the atmosphere will make the difference.

Re: Team for tonight
Great first 20 mins but needed one of those chances to go in. Terrible defending for the second goal - Curtis dreadfully giving the ball away and Bolton not tracking his man just stopping instead. Hopeless.

Hard to believe some of the players in our team are professional footballersPakefieldBlue wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 8:35 pm Great first 20 mins but needed one of those chances to go in. Re: Team for tonight
Might have been different if one of those early chances had gone in, but at least it wasn't the drubbing I feared it might be.

Re: Team for tonight
I’d say it was a borderline drubbing as it was, the great crowd masked over some fairly poor performances.

Re: Team for tonight
Their biggest win at Fratton Park, I'd say 0-4 was a drubbing. They outplayed us totally after the first 20 minutes. No Shot Sherlock wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 11:42 pm Might have been different if one of those early chances had gone in, but at least it wasn't the drubbing I feared it might be.

Re: Team for tonight
ffs....it had to be 4-0 didn't it.....I could have lived with 3-0
btw....0-4 at home in a derby is a drubbing
btw, Colchester knocked out Spurs. Must have a manager that has some tactical nous, can frustrate the carp out of superior opposition and knows how to get his team fired up
