Having read this archive article, it struck me how many similarities there are with what Pompey are currently experiencing:

Yeah eerily familiar innit?...that was 2016. Since then, and on their third manager since then because they have decided to not put up with mediocrity or safety first football, they have been promoted to the prem, finished 7th and just beat current champs and one of the best teams in Europe in their house 0-2.

….and here's the thing....KJ is a good man fer sure but he's a product of his era....the past. He's from the Sam Allardyce / Steve Bruce school of football and that just isn't acceptable these days. Look at what Wolves and Bournemouth are doing. Even Brighton sacked Houghton after his success largely because the football was unattractive and now they are having a go instead of parking the bus against the top teams.
This team has a huge financial advantage over everyone in this league bar perhaps Blunderland. Poor performance / recruitment / scouting just aint good enough for L1 (division 3) Even our pre season is poorly organized we had, what...a game against some Irish schoolboys and a couple of outings against non league teams....nothing testing....no team bonding tour of France or somewhere useful.
And btw, why oh why do we not have a solid loan agreement with the likes of Brighton and Bournemouth. There are so many deficiencies in how this team is run on and off the field that fall at KJ's door. Need I hark back to the comments on fitness from a season or 2 back?....essentially he says its the players responsibility to stay fit so apparently, we don't focus on fitness much at team Pompey......meanwhile, everyone else with a brain set in the current century has their teams wearing man=bras that monitor and record every aspect of fitness.
Also, the man needs frown bypass surgery and a smilie face implant

Here's the stats (FACTS)
P131 W65 D28 L38 W% 49.62

Its not a horrible set of stats....you'd be quite happy with that in the Championship (Div 2) and downright ecstatic with that in the Prem......but its not good enough for this team in this division and L2 where a chunk of those stats are from.

I think it's a mistake to think that Pompey have a huge financial advantage over the rest of the teams in the division. Last reported turnover was £8 million, Wolves with who you compare had a turnover of £24 million but lost £23million in their last declared accounts that philosophy if copied at pompey would only lead to one place and we've been there several times before, the last time it was only a complete fluke that we are not now supporting a Pheonix club ground sharing at Havant or Gosport.
Whats sucking up Pompeys resources is a back log of investment in the infrastructure, without Eisners investment I think its unlikely we would have been able to survive in Division 1 as the necessary investments would have sucked up the players wage budget. If you look around the club its apparent that this backlog is being dealt with. The Eisners are being patient we need to be too.

Jackett never managed us in L2 mate.

well...yes and no....I was comparing the managerial issues with wolves, not the finances. And sure, you make a fair argument re infrastructure investment etc but surely a shedload of the other teams in this league are playing in grounds older than Grandma and have issues. I guess the true comparison would be available payrolls to each team. Cant be arsed to look all that up if its even available but surely we are at / near the top of the pack in this division. Surely we can at least afford the frown removal and smiley face implant for the man.

I think you're right the information on the salaries will only become available 18 months in arrears when the clubs accounts are published. However the effect of parachute and solidarity payments from the Premier and Championships means that I reckon if you had a League 1 Table of Players wages it would read something like this: Sunderland, Ipswich, Rotherham, MK Dons, Burton Albion and Bristol Rovers. Note no Pompey in either the promotion or play off positions. Last years Pompey position in the actual league would have pulled above its weight. Further down the wages league its hard to say where teams like Bolton and Coventry sit and I wouldn't be surprised to find that one of the flat pack stadium clubs is being bankrolled to a position above us so i reckon you can probably say Pompey will be somewhere between position 7 and 10 in the wages league for league 1.
Catlin who lets face it is the Eisners main advisor knows this. He also knows that a club thats in this position will struggle to find a better manager in those circumstances. The issue wasn't even mentioned in his latest update, I wonder why?

We spent the most in the TW just gone. That in itself brings expectation.
As for would struggle to find a better manager, well we'll have to see about that. But the likes of Stendel are better & play better football than Jackett who is dinosaur like when it comes down to tactics. Also people are staying away, all ST's are included but already some people aren't attending. Its dull & generally poor fayre, a lot of his signings he seemingly doesn't trust or worse doesn't know how to get the best out of them, Marquis as a particular case in point. Tactically he's easy to counteract when we come up against the better L1 teams. Push up on the wingers & deny them space, we rarely play through the middle so do the former & you get a very blunt looking Pompey team with KJ having zero idea how to sort it.
I reckon & hope his days are numbered, we deserve better for our hard earned than the current type of Jackettball. Nice bloke & all that but hoofball never works here, Pulis, Cotterill etc testify to that.

Did we spend the most in the last TW? What on a net basis (Ie transfers out - transfers in) I'm a bit sceptical, by my calculations we'd be well down the league. Would you care to share your calculations or source?

From my seat in the Fratton End Block B there's no evidence of large scale absenteeism, Yes the crowd are dissatisfied and they do walk out early but that has always been the case.

I share some of your tactical concerns but I reckon there's absolutely no chance of KJ being replaced until the spring and even then if/ when it becomes apparent that we won't make the playoffs. My money is on him still being the manager at the end of the season. The only influence that the fans can have on this is by not renewing their season tickets. If that is a determining factor you change manager at the end of the early bird renewal period to maximise income.

My season ticket will be renewed whatever and I will always stay and applaud at the final whistle because I want to encourage better things with what resources we have.

Maybe with a 3 1/2 hour train journey to home games I'm more hardcore than some of the people that walk down the road.

There are mentions of 'hoofball' in this discussion but strangely enough last Saturday I sensed that our defence in particular -Burgess especially- were looking to pass and build from the back. In addition McGillivray was playing the ball to his defenders rather than kicking out of his hands into the opposing half as has been his habit. It was most welcome, not that it had any major effect on the outcome. Largely because when the ball reached Close and Naylor they were playing easy square sideways balls and not driving forward .

Probably because McGillivray wasnt playing, he was sitting on the bench for Scotland.

Yes we were top spenders. Harcore- behave. A 3 1/2 hr journey makes you no more or less "hardcore" than anyone else. Jeez.
For the record been going since 1969. I hope thats "hardcore" enough for you. :D
But seriously Burton was noticeable by the empty seats by us in the lower FE. And on saturday. I did think like yourself he'll get until the summer, now I dont think so. Especially if people continue to stay away. Even Neil Allen is saying how dire we are to watch, he's right as well. KJ is undoubtedly a nice bloke but tactically @ times he looks way past it. Seemingly oblivious to whats going on in ft of him.
