...the guy that used to clean windscreens at the St Marys Church traffic lights?

Anyone else remember this or was it just a childhood imagining?

Did cars in the 80s not have water sprayers? (Genuine question)

You didn't just dream it. I assumed that councils put a stop to screen-washers, as there were lots of reports of people being bullyed into paying the washers, and people's windscreens being egged if they refused.

I'm pretty certain that I saw that guy you're talking about selling The Big Issue, possibly at Waitrose, Marmion Road a few years back.

I vaguely recall windscreen washers becoming compulsory around 1971. Blimey! that's nearly 50 years ago.
