Re: Some good news
We'll unfortunately never totally eradicate flu completely but such reduced numbers are good news. I'd guess this is thanks to the lockdown and social distancing?
Re: Some good news
Probably a mixture of that and people have been afraid to go to the doctor's and have just suffered at home .

That's possible . There is s clip of Patrick vallance at one of the briefings saying Covid was being put on death certificates when people hadn't even been testedRubiconCSL wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 6:50 pm Probably just that everyone that has flu has been diagnosed as having covid.

Re: Some good news
I thought I read somewhere that influenza comes under the Coronavirus/covid banner as a mild form and that the derivative Covid-19 is the killer, so maybe this statement is correct but misleading?RubiconCSL wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 6:50 pm Probably just that everyone that has flu has been diagnosed as having covid.

Re: Some good news
As an example, the hospital closest to me (Musgrove in Taunton) had to contact 80 or so people to tell them the positive results on their tests were incorrect. Now these are people who had been tested when they were admitted to hospital. Okay, not everyone admitted to hospital is going to die. But if any of those 80 had died, they would have been reported as death "with" covid. That is 80 false positives from one machine, in one hospital. The deaths reported say "with covid", not "of covid". It makes me wonder what the real number of deaths actually caused BY covid really is. Probably, we'll never really know - "treat them like mushrooms" and all that.

Think you'll find that this is simply because the deaths typically result from organ failure (often multiple organs) but these failures are caused by Covid.RubiconCSL wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 10:03 pm The deaths reported say "with covid", not "of covid".
