Season to be suspended from tomorrow?
With over half of tonight's games called off, it's hard to see how it can continue at present, and I suspect the government may make the decision even if the EFL don't.

Re: Season to be suspended from tomorrow?
I don’t get it. So are we saying bubbles that have been set up for the past 6 months or so are no longer effective? Or have players just been a bit more lax over the Xmas period?
One other way of looking at it... Surely it gets to the point more players have had the virus than haven’t and the entire league will have effectively attained “herd immunity” levels which IIRC was between 60% and 80%?

I suspect like the rest of the nation people have become lax.
They also don't test them weekly anymore so they?

I suspect that it is just one of those things. Lots of people are getting the virus in this wave, even when they are following all the rules as best they can. There is little that is 100% effective in eliminating transmission. A "bubble" as large as a football club, plus all the associated contacts, is always going to be vulnerable to infection, and once it gets into the group spread will be rapid.
I said elsewhere that I thought there should have been a break in football over Christmas to try and break the cycle of intersquad transmission, and this is still an option, but probably too late at this point (where have we heard that before?).
The alternative is to play matches as and when possible. Logicitics would be tricky, but with no supporters to worry about, it would even be possible to move games forward from later in the season's fixture list if two "clean" teams both had their scheduled fixtures postponed. Get games played when you can, as it will be their turn to be infected at some point.
At the moment, in the worst case, Accrington (played 16) now have five games in hand over MK Dons (played 21). With that level of variation, points-per-game stops being a method of minor tweaks and is itself very artificial and unfair. The differing interests and agendas of teams widens and agreement becomes more dificult.

Re: Season to be suspended from tomorrow?
The problem for teams outside the Premier League - in addition to not having the funds for regular testing - is that the EFL have offered so little guidance on what criteria clubs can follow for calling off games. So you have situations like at Rotherham last night where they felt pressured to play the fixture against Barnsley despite Covid cases for fear of a points deduction.

I guess if the two teams had been further afield then it would have called off. Barnsley and Rotherham can only be 10-12 miles apart and in the same sphere of risk.Dinksy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 9:41 am The problem for teams outside the Premier League - in addition to not having the funds for regular testing - is that the EFL have offered so little guidance on what criteria clubs can follow for calling off games. Wasn't it a FACT that when footy kicked back off there were no handshakes, group goal celebrations and the usual hugging and kissing that goes along with that?
Because thats been out of the window for a while.

IMO. Taking the knee has proved a point and it should stop now.Dinksy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 4:59 pmYup but the really important stuff like 'Taking the Knee' is still there, thank goodness....The Cincinnati Kid wrote:Wasn't it a FACT that when footy kicked back off there were no handshakes, group goal celebrations and the usual hugging and kissing that goes along with that?

Or is it gonna be a permanent fixture?

Maybe it’ll become a permanent fixture like exchanging of the scroll things they do between captains. Can’t remember what that was for.Keeprblue wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 12:19 pmIMO.
