Having known someone who recently went through the big C this hits home a fair bit.

I have nothing but good wishes to him and his family.

That is so sad.
i remember Macca scoring the only goal to beat Not's Forest at home (FA cup I think?)

Yep. Arguably Macca's finest moment! 1-0 after about 90 secs because Stuart Pearce thought it would be a good idea to welcome Darren Anderton to the match.

And for some bizarre reason John Beresford runs from left-back to take the free kick by the right corner flag, leaving a massive gap and Jim Smith doing his absolute nut on the touchline! Then Crossley dropped the ball right onto Macca's foot from a yard out.

All followed by about 95 minutes of backs-to-the-wall defending and some seriously high blood pressure.

The crowd went absolutely mental when he scored that. I struggle to remember being in a better atmosphere

I was in the crowd that day when Macca scored for us, IIRC he had only just moved across the south coast to us. What a way to make an entrance.

It was backs to the wall that day - Keane was immense for them in midfield but we found a way to get through (and up to Highbury)

Lets not forget what a brilliant footballer Maccca was for Pompey during his time with us - to this day one of my fav ever Pompey players and i'm deeply saddened to see the news of his ongoing battle.

Best wishes Macca - hope you win this battle matey. Always a winner in my book.
