Re: Whatmough to Wigan
Wigan fans are delighted that their owners are financially committed to making the team successful.

He was out of contract and was offered a reduced wage renewal

Wigan, I ask you...
It makes you wonder how diminished are the terms being offered to our out-of-contract players.
Still, a little club like ours can't expect to outbid mighty Wigan.
We are just grateful to make up the numbers in League One, our new, permanent home.

Sad to see him go, but I think that the club has shown him a lot of loyalty over the years during his injuries and they were entitled to offer him a contract renewal based on games played.

You can look at this situation in two way. Either we are being prudent and longer term we will be in better shape financially. Or we are lacking in ambition and our penny pinching will see us fighting relegation instead of promotion.

Re: Whatmough to Wigan
I look at it as a bit of both:
1) The club tightening the belt a little due to the current circumstances.
2) The Cowley's wanting a project, and trusting in their process.

Re: Whatmough to Wigan
If this is true I will be very disappointed. I had assumed that if he was to leave he would go up to the Championship. This would also mean that Wigan are more ambitious than us. I don't think they would put themselves at risk of further financial stress so soon after just managing to stay afloat. Furthermore the player himself must think that Wigan are better bet than the club he has supported all his life. My worry has been that we are building a team on the cheap and this sort of news seems to confirm this. We haven't had any details on any incoming players yet, other than that non league youngster, so we can't gauge our ambition. So far it doesn't look good.

Andrew Moon from Radio Solent tweeted that Jack was offered a longer deal from Wigan rather than a better paid one.

Re: Whatmough to Wigan
If this is true it makes it even more farcical so all we had to do is offer a longer term contract. I can only think if the truth be known Jack didn’t figure in Cowley’s plans.

Apparently we offered a 1 year deal with a second year triggered if he played a certain amount of games.

Has he ever been to Wigan, it makes Gosport seem like Mayfair

To be fair, he's got a young family and I can appreciate the importance of a longer deal. Good luck to him.PakefieldBlue wrote:Andrew Moon from Radio Solent tweeted that Jack was offered a longer deal from Wigan rather than a better paid one.
And we still have Raggett and Downing......!
