New substitution rules
For next season the EFL have changed substitution rule now from a named 7 you can use 5 but only at 3 times during the match but halftime changes don’t count towards the 3 changes so that’s really clear to everyone watching.
On the bright side Cowley can now change half the team during the match no matter how we are playing rather than between matches like he did most of last season.

Re: New substitution rules
I suppose it kind of makes sense. Nobody ever really gets subbed off at half-time unless injured, so you could be at a tactical disadvantage as the game nears the final whistle.
Seems we're getting to closer to the point of having rolling subs though.

Re: New substitution rules
Think the reason for only the three "substitution windows" is to try and stop managers wasting time by stopping the game on five separate occasions in the last ten minutes if they're 1-0 up. Something I'm sure our friends from Wycombe would make full use of! Think it's the same rule as was in force for the FA Cup this season (and what they're also introducing in the Premier League next season too).
It should benefit the bigger clubs with more depth in their squad, in theory. I'm hoping we'll be one of those but ask me again in August!

Re: New substitution rules
Yes but now formalized as permanent as last season it went back to 3 subs
Also during Covid there were no crowds so it pretty much went unnoticed
Also never affected Cowley that much as he was out of the game for most of Covid

Re: New substitution rules
I think it's a good idea. Less chance of being forced to keep crocked players on the pitch and gives you a chance to rest more players. Should stop Klopp moaning at last lol.
Anyway I wonder how much the fact the world cup is this winter plays into the thinking here?

It's football, but not as we knew it. I suppose the next thing will be time outs for 'comfort breaks' or to change their Alice bands
