So sorry to hear of Pomps passing. I don't post very often but always enjoyed the banter. Incredible respect across the posters on this site so good to see.

When we won the league, I started a thread titled "an acceptable claret" http://www.thepompeychimes.net/forum/vi ... =2&t=76864 in the hope of enticing P&C out of an apparent retirement. Now I know why he didn't respond...

I'm amazed by his age - he seemed timeless.

Sad to hear this news. His posts will be missed. It's a shame he didn't get to see Pompey win the title this season.

I'd just like to add that it's all very unfortunate that the poor chap was taken ill one day and gone the next.
Personally, I'm hoping for at least 24 hrs notice. Times up CK..... but you do have time for a last bottle of acceptable Claret, a bit of Rumpy Pumpy and a last post.

All at the same time, just as the boys stick home the sixth goal past a hapless Stains in the cup final.

Very sad news indeed, his posts were amusing, he was full of pomp and was a real character, I'd imagine in real life he'd be the sort of person you could easily
Finish a few bottles of acceptable Claret with.

I don't get on here much now and this truly shocked me. I only met him once and we chatted for well over an hour. Shocked he was that much older than me, he didn't seem it. He will be missed.

Watching the Last Night of the Proms tonight and I couldn't help thinking of him as the orchestra struck up with Pomp and Circumstance.

I remember the evening well. Petersfield. Monoloco. Pomp and Milkins circling each other like crabs in a bucket.

We looked on in awe, previously thinking he wasn't even a real person, and there in the flesh c/w smoking jacket, plus fours and glass of acceptable, whilst the fiend Milkins fenced his nemesis protected only by the badger pelt slung over one shoulder.
