U-turn or listening to the people it benefits the most? I still don't understand why Govts have 'U-turns' and business has 'flexibility'. I'd much rather have a government that is able to bend with the breeze rather than just shrug and say 'sorry, wasn't in the manifesto'.

exactly, at least it shows flexibility and an admission to say we got it wrong, even if they dont say those words!

Again, if they 'propose' a policy instead of 'announcing' it...Wimbledon Blue wrote:exactly, at least it shows flexibility and an admission to say we got it wrong, even if they dont say those words!

What policies of note would have been in the budget without these three tax announcements?

exactly what I have been telling people all day. I don't ever remember the last Labour government backing down on anything of note.

Obviously bad policies are a bad idea, but at the time of the budget much was made of how piecemeal it appeared. Those in the know had heard about many of the policies before because they'd been hanging around the Treasury as ideas for ages. Nobody had instigated them because they were bad ideas and nobody wanted them in the past. They were included in the last budget because Osborne et al had run out of ideas. Without the policies which have been withdrawn you're left with a tax cut for the rich and the glaring absence of a growth plan for the reporters to talk about.
