Chuka Umunna withdraws from Labour leadership bid
Quite surprised at that, he showed a bit of promise. Citing 'being uncomfortable with the added pressure'.
That leaves Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper, Liz Kendall and Mary Creagh left in the hat.

*****, I'd have thought he was the perfect candidate. As for the rest well I'm underwhelmed tbh. Cooper the best of that lot I suppose but itsnot saying a lot.

So he's chuka'd it in then. I like the bit about being uncomfortable about the "level of scrutiny" - what's he got to hide then I ask myself?

Chuka is all style, no substance. I would have despaired had he got the leadership.pompeygunner wrote:*****, I'd have thought he was the perfect candidate. As for the rest well I'm underwhelmed tbh. Cooper the best of that lot I suppose but itsnot saying a lot.
Liz Kendall is the best of the candidates to have declared.
It was his girlfriend's 102 years old grandmother being doorstepped that push him to withdraw.RubiconCSL wrote:So he's chuka'd it in then. I like the bit about being uncomfortable about the "level of scrutiny" - what's he got to hide then I ask myself?

I agree with that. Yvette Cooper comes across well plus she was born in Scotland which may go some way to appeasing our north of the border brethren.pompeygunner wrote:Cooper the best of that lot .....

Cannot agree with your assessment of Chuka, IMo you need to ask who is most likely to appeal to the electorate with a chance of getting Labour back in Govt in 5 yrs.
However good you think Kendall is the chances of her doing that using my gut instinct is low. Whether we like it or not sharp suits & media personna are now all important.

Agree with that. He's far too Blairite for my liking.Lost in Transportation wrote: Chuka is all style, no substance. I would have despaired had he got the leadership.
Really? He saw everything the press through at Ed Miliband throughout the campaign, and didn't think they might do the same to him? Smacks of naivity at best, and at worst - realise it sounds very conspiracy theorist - of someone with something to hide.Lost in Transportation wrote:It was his girlfriend's 102 years old grandmother being doorstepped that push him to withdraw.

I've seen a fair amount of Liz Kendall because of the health/social care sphere. She has the intellect and the communication skills to be a decent leader.pompeygunner wrote:Cannot agree with your assessment of Chuka, IMo you need to ask who is most likely to appeal to the electorate with a chance of getting Labour back in Govt in 5 yrs.

A big shame. He had all the makings of PM from 2020 onwards.

Oh you might be surprised if she got the leadership. They said much the same about Thatcher.pompeygunner wrote:Of Labour yes, but to be PM-never sadly.
My fear is that Burnham will be selected. Ed mark II.

Re: Chuka Umunna withdraws from Labour leadership bid
Yes agree ref Burnham, a decent enough minister but not cut out for leadership. I hope you're right about Kendall but thats the thing with Labour atm, no one for me stands out really. Labour need to be in position in 5 yrs to form a govt, they need a change of strategy & concentrate soley on England & Wales. The Scots are going IMO.
