Oxford 2 Pompey 2 (we win 5-4 on pens)

Post by Weybridge »

Young Pompey team, and Lethbridge bags a first senior goal.

Sounds like pens was nerve racking. Sudden death, and seven players used!

Means we top the group and a home tie in the knockout stage.

Yes, it was a young Pompey side that did very well against a more experienced Oxford. Bass was pretty damn good as a bonus! PUP

Bass supershow puts us through to round one where it starts to get "interesting".......in the sense that the competition goes from cold to tepid. Are we counting this as three wins in a row?

Weeelllll, sort of.

Under the rules of the competition, I think it counts as a draw, and we get the bonus point.

But then, if my aging memory serves me correctly, we won the CAT Trophy, by virtue of winning the penalty shootout, that wasn't a draw. We didn't share the cup.

Outrageous luck! Didn’t Oxford miss three penalties in a row at the end? That doesn’t happen often.

I just watched them. We handed it to them on a plate, three times!

Some woeful penalties from the 14 taken. 9 scored, 1 saved, 4 missed entirely. I think Close's just about entered orbit.
