Re: The end of lower league football ?
We are in a relatively stable financial position but how long can we sustain £700k a month losses ?

Re: The end of lower league football ?
Its going to create an ugly chasm for sure. Championship teams should cope for a while, probably half the League One teams, but very few of League Two and National League. But after then, on about Step 6 of the pyramid, it's ok. I also watch Staines Town a lot (Isthmian League) - semi-pro with a 4000 capacity stadium, and a typical attendance of about 180. Current government rules state that Step 6 has to limit capacity to 10%, so its been pretty much business as usual, other than strict distancing and safety measures inside. I've attended three times this season, and will do so again tonight.
I can see a lot of professional teams scaling back and turning semi-pro in an effort to survive.

I sometimes go to Havant and Waterlooville but I haven't kept up with what's going on there. I will have to go and lend my support if they're allowing any fans

Today's announcement from the government regarding fans at games looks like the end of the road for Dover (National League, or Division 5 if you prefer).

No fans until March...which is pretty much the whole season. Thats a done and dusted for a few clubs I reckon.

Just coming to post that. Here's a link from a reliable reporter. The Cincinnati Kid wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 5:10 am No fans until March...which is pretty much the whole season. Thats a done and dusted for a few clubs I reckon.

It's going to be carnage unless (a) the PL provide enough money to bail out lower league clubs, or (if they won't) (b) the government forces the PL to do so, e.g with the threat of a massive tax on sports clubs with wage bills over (e.g.) £100M/year to provide the money.

Plus the knock on effect to all the other businesses. Pubs, burger sellers etc. The hundreds who work for clubs off field.Pompey Penguin wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 7:07 amJust coming to post that. All our efforts to save our club may turn out to be in vain.

I think the tight budgetting by the owners may now save us. The club runs a tight ship and maybe we can ease through it without the difficulties of others in the division. Other clubs may have a fire-sale of players to reduce ciosts.

Do we think this season will be written off before it even gets going?
Re: The end of lower league football ?
I've got a feeling we will end the season with less teams than at the start.Pompey1984+1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 5:17 pm Do we think this season will be written off before it even gets going?

Re: The end of lower league football ?
I heard there is a mooted bail out from the PL but as we all know there will be caveat's. B teams?? Leverage etc. Problem is a lot of lower league teams wont be in a position to turn down any funding.

Basically the big clubs swallowing up the small ones. Whatever it takes, I guess. But not Solent United. Anything but that!
