Your Team vs Wimbledon (EFL Trophy)
Pompey enter the knock out phase of the EFL Trophy on Tuesday at home vs Wimbledon.
You'd think that Mousinho will make a few changes to the team to give playing time to those that need it. A few players may also be available as part of them returning from injury - even if it a managed return say for 60 mins.
What team do you think Pompey will put out for this game?
I think Scully and Lowery will be eased back into the game for 60mins and I think that Bishop will get 30mins but that they won't want to play him from the start given the quick run of games over Christmas.
I'd love to see Oglivie getting close to fitness but that doesn't seem likely so there is a decision to be made at left back. Do you play Hume and risk him getting injured and then ruining his chances of leaving the club in two weeks time when the transfer window opens or do you play Sparkes again there? or do you more Swanson over to left back but then you have to play Rafferty at right back? Decisions, decisions.
If I were Mousinho I'd be playing a strong starting team and trying to protect a few players like Pack, Bishop, Robertson, Morrell and Kamara from this game given the Christmas fixtures.
My team would be:
Schofield.
Swanson.
Raggett.
Towler.
Hume,
Stephenson,
Devlin,
Lowery,
Whyte,
Scully,
Yengi
Subs: Norris, Sparkes, Shaughnessy, Robertson, Saydee, Bishop, Lane
At 60 mins I would be planning on subbing off: Yengi, Scully and Lowery for Bishop, Lane and Saydee
I'd try and get 90mins into Whyte, Devlin, Stephenson, Swanson, Towler and Hume.
What do you think?

I may be wrong but I believe Raggett is suspended
for this game after being dismissed in Pompey’s
2-1 victory against Leyton Orient in the last group game !!

I'd like to see Bishop and Yengi playing two up front in this game in the second half but apart from that I think I agree with everything else you've said outside of Rags being suspended.

I`d like to see the "fringe" Players given 90+ minutes maybe including a couple of youngsters

Re: Your Team vs Wimbledon (EFL Trophy)
well remembered! I had forgotten that completely. Shaughnessy then might have to play as a right sided defender alongside Towler and I'd add Morrell to the sub bench.malcdelsol wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 4:44 pm I may be wrong but I believe Raggett is suspended

Idiot that I am - I had forgotten about Josh Martin. He would be on the bench for me ahead of Lane for this game and then he can come on for Scully after 60mins.

No - he is only training with them and is not their registered player so he is not eligible for the game.

Half tempted to come to the game tomorrow. It’s a long old drive but I’ve not been to a game yet.

This is embarrassing!!
3-0 down after 30 minutes!!
Schofield having a mare
Devlin having a mare
Rafferty, Towler, Stevenson just not gelling
Heads must roll!! Mistakes everywhere
