I don't know exactly what, but then I've only get 12 Likes! Plus I believe that the activity on your page is indexed by Google (could be wrong there), so more activity means a higher listing - which in my industry is a good thing. No Shot Sherlock wrote:I have to admit to being somewhat bemused by the whole social media thing. I had to register with Facebook in order to be able to create and administer a page for the charity (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Smile4Wes ... 9075053259) and we also have a Twitter account (http://twitter.com/#!/smile4wessex) but the numbers 'liking' or 'following' are relatively low (52 & 11 respectively). I guess they only really start to have any major value when those liking/following reaches much greater numbers, but is there really any point in inviting support from people who probably have no real interest in what you have to say? Surely, that just gives a false impression of the real level of interest in what you are promoting.
As for my personal Facebook page, I rarely even look at it, let alone post anything thereon, and I've lost count of the number of people from my dark distant past who I've quietly ignored 'friend requests' from. I didn't want to be friends with them 35 years ago, so why the hell would I want to be friends with them now!
And before anyone says it, I know, I'm being a grumpy old fart again.
I agree with you on a personal level - I haven't really actively sought out friends from the past, but I have cousins literally all over the world that I can easily keep in touch with.
And I also have a separate profile, which I keep just to keep in touch with the lads in my football team - the twonks ALWAYS post that they've enjoyed someone else's training session, so I am forewarned that they're considering leaving, and I can adjust my plans accordingly.
