Overshadowed by the Olympics
but shouldn't be ignored :
Rory McIlroy won the US PGA yesterday by eight shots. Thats a huge deal and its practically gone unnoticed.
Also David Lynn (Eng) came 2nd, and Justin Rose and Ian Poulter came joint 3rd.
The Brits are on top form!

Another sport that already has its own flagship tournaments but at least we should be in with a shout for medals.PUP_Macs_Wallet wrote:I think it was said somewhere last night that golf will be in the Olympics in Rio?

Re: Overshadowed by the Olympics
All the sports in the Olympics where the teams are "professionals" I tend to shy away from . Football, tennis, basketball and next time golf don't sit well with me for some reason .

Spain really came close in the Basketball against the NBA's very best and richest. That would have been THE 'Games moment' if Spain won.Norman Piper wrote:All the sports in the Olympics where the teams are "professionals" I tend to shy away from . So which sports aren't professional? I'm struggling to think of many where the athletes aren't full time.Norman Piper wrote:All the sports in the Olympics where the teams are "professionals" I tend to shy away from . So sports where wages/prize money don't set you up for life?Norman Piper wrote:Hence the inverted commas... and chips wrote:So which sports aren't professional? Re: Overshadowed by the Olympics
I suppose there's the familure factor for me. Golf and tennis have several major tournaments broadcast globally per year and something televised almost every week . Football is rammed down our throats 4 or 5 times a week when the leagues start and has various other tournents but I don't often get to see 4 blOkes standing in a cricket ground shooting bow and arrows. It's relatively rare to see some one try to propell themselves over a bar with the aid of a large stick or to spend the best part of half an hour trying to run faster than someone else.
