Re: Beans On Toast
Add cheese, a fried egg and HP sauce and I would whole heartedly agree

Re: Beans On Toast
Like you, Portchester, I do like a small block of cheese with my beans on toast. Not sure the egg isn't going too far, though.
If you gave the dish a posh name like...
'Aricots a la Toste
...all done in a French accent, then it'd be revered in the same way other posh dishes are.

Re: Beans On Toast
Chop up a sausage and fry in a saucepan. Once browned add the beans (plus pepper to season) and cook until they start to lose their molecular structure. Fry two eggs and place on three slices of buttered toast. Add bean and sausage mixture over the top and sprinkle with grated cheese.

Re: Beans On Toast
Instead of sausage chop some Chorizo into small pieces (I remove the skin, slice then quarter the slices) then either lightly fry or just add straight to the beans.

No, no, no, no, no! Start messing about with it and its not beans on toast anymore. The only addition allowed is some black pepper. It's an occasional treat - and one I enjoyed yesterday evening after the game. Michael Owen got a standing ovation for his last match when he came on from all sides of the ground. Nice.

Re: Beans On Toast
Instead of beans, add a well seasoned rare fillet steak and instead of toast add chips, fried mushroom, tomato and peas, then I agree it's lovely.

Even good quality beans are tedious, the less said about 'value' brands the better.
Now if you want a proper alternative, one your tastebuds will love you forever for...scrambled egg with marmite toast.
Unbeatable.

Re: Beans On Toast
Heathens - the finest mature Cheddar, melted on toast until it is bubbling and slightly browned. Add cracked black pepper and HP sauce.

Re: Beans On Toast
You were doing so well until you spoiled everything by adding HP sauce. Now HP is all well and good under certain circumstances...but it's essential cheapness negates the qualities of said cheddar. may I suggest just a morsel of sweet chilli dipping sauce instead?Milkins wrote:Heathens - the finest mature Cheddar, melted on toast until it is bubbling and slightly browned. Re: Beans On Toast
It's mature cheddar, grilled to brown, with marmite on toast or...
...smokey bacon fried to crispy, mature cheddar melted on top, mushrooms and fried egg on toasted brown bread or...
...scrambled egg with chorizo, crushed chilli seeds, all mixed with mayonnaise while still runny, served on toast.
