British teams in Europe

Now then. I can see the facts behind England doing badly in world football - basically, we aren't producing anywhere near good enough players. However, with so much money available at club level to the likes of Citeh, Chelski, L'pool etc., how come we are now also so crap in Europe? Most of the players are foreign. Most of the managers are foreign. Maybe it's that you can't simply buy class.

I have believed for a very long time that you can buy and assemble the best individual players in the world, but sometimes thats all they are, individual players with ego's so big that there is no chance of them ever becoming a TEAM. Thats why other teams succeed, less ego's and more of a team ethos.

Just my thoughts.

Wouldn't it be sensible to wait until at least the group stages are complete before coming to any verdict on the crapness or otherwise of English clubs in Europe?

Sensible possibly, but when has football opinion ever needed to be sensible?

Well, except for the FACT that those teams win all the trophies.
That's where yer top managers come into play innit?.....they are good at turning individual egos into a team.
Besides....to make it as a top athlete, orindeed a top anything..... a bit of ego is required imo.

Indeed - Mr Salmond is a good example.
