Judicial inconsistencies
So, 2 women torture and murder a young girl, and get 18 and 13 years:

A teenager is convicted of attempted murder and gets 21 years:

Whilst I appreciate I don't know the ins and outs of the cases, there seems to be something amiss here. Fewer years for actually murdering someone, than attempting to.
Hmmmm.
Anyone want to explain?

Its such a fine line between stupid and clever.
Re: Judicial inconsistencies
btw, not trying to defend any of the convicted, just don't understand the sentences.

Re: Judicial inconsistencies
Might have something to do with the fact that the two women were convicted of manslaughter, not murder

Re: Judicial inconsistencies
ok, I'll reword my original post (my confusion still stands):
So, 2 women torture and KILL a young girl, and get 18 and 13 years:

A teenager is convicted of attempted murder and gets 21 years:

Re: Judicial inconsistencies
that rather poses the questions
How many attempts = 1 manslaughter
or
How many attempts = 1 murder
or
How many manslaughters = 1 murder

Re: Judicial inconsistencies
Indeed, when you re-word it as 'didn't intend to kill' for the first, and 'intended to kill but failed' for the second, the sentences might seem more appropriate. No Shot Sherlock wrote:Might have something to do with the fact that the two women were convicted of manslaughter, not murder
For the record, I would support full life sentences for anyone who kills/makes concerted attempt to kill someone.
(Reading the details of the Pompey lad, I'm not sure 1.5cm-2cm wounds to the breasts amounts to an attempted murder. You would have to hit the heart of a flat-chested girl dead-on for any chance of a fatal wound.)
