I expect there's many proud people in our city today. Won't be down here for a few months yet, but it's one step closer!

That is one awesome boat innit.
I assume its too big to get into Portsmouth Harbour?.....does anyone else recall USS Nimitz hanging in the Solent back in the early 80's??

Anyhoo....on the downside of things.....I read an article last week...which I now cant find....said at the Falklands campaign y'all could field 55 Frigates & Destroyers but today that number is 22......shocking!!

Double anyhoo.....build number 2.....1 Aircraft carrier isn't sound defence policy.

Back to HMS QE2......beautiful.

It'll fit into Portsmouth Harbour, there's been substantial dredging, and infrastructure works to not only get her in the Harbour, but also allow her to dock.

Ship two, or Prince of Wales as she's known, is about two years behind.

Whereas it's operating system is about 20 years out-of-date. Yep, they're using Windows XP.

There is a time-lapse video partway down, which shows her being moved through the lock into the Forth. Jeepers that was tight.

Arriving in Portsmouth tomorrow morning at 07:10!

She's spent the last 24 hours charging down through the Irish Sea, and is fast approaching Weymouth, so might even be visible out in the Solent tonight.

Check out http://www.marinetraffic.com to track her latest movements.

I hope they`ve remembered to move the Round Tower back a few feet. Still it`s a big bollard.

Well I was obviously down there, and blow me she's a beautiful big beasty of a bugger. (But I knew that already having been on-board). Anyone else get down there to wave her in?

A great morning to be part of, proud of this city and to have been involved.

Mrs TTNY asked me if it was worth the 5am wake up, "Yes. Definitely" was my reply.

Thanks .

Hopefully most of you know I am not into the Saints - Pompey hatred , was a genuine question about an amazing looking machine . Just need the planes now , and hope they never get used in battle :)

I'm surprised they didn't use some breed of unix/linux.

However, if you're going the Microsoft route I always thought XP was one of the more stable versions of Windows. If it was Vista then they WOULD be in trouble.
