Sunderland could work well for him. If their debt is written off as I've heard, I'd imagine they'd have a good shout at promotion, especially with the parachute payment.

He could then win promotion (maybe as champions each time) in three leagues, in three seasons, with three different clubs. One to tell his grand-children.

He's just signed a 4 year deal with Wigan.

Nice pay-off if the new owners have twitchy fingers.

Seems to me that it's always about the budget for Cook, he only wants to take a job if the budget gives him a good chance of success. Very shrewd really, knows how to manage his career to get to his ultimate dream of managing Liverpool - will be interesting to watch how it works out.

I personally don't buy into this it's all about the money for Cook - it's about Paul Cook and that's ok for me if the manager is successful the club is too.

If it was about budget he wouldn't have come to us - he could have gone to lots of places when he came to us - his stock was high. He had just take Chesterfield from league two - to league one play offs.

I'm fascinated to see how Cookie gets on in the Championship - next season will be a good test as to just how good he is. I suspect he'll do well.

Surely though we were a step up from Chesterfield in every aspect including budget? He might have had other offers (who knows?) but he saw us as the next step up in his career. Would he have come to us if the budget was smaller than Chesterfield's?
