Kenny is saying that he is tweaking the formation to 442 with Pitman and Marquis upfront.

A couple of questions to those who get to games regularly:

1) Was this change in formation obvious in the last 2 games as Kenny suggests? I saw the Carabo Cup on tv and didn't notice it.
2) Wouldn't Harrison be a better partner for Marquis in a 442?

1. Pitman did seem to be playing more up front especially in the first half against Bolton, which only seemed to make our lack of a midfield playmaker more obvious.

2. Pitman does get goals, but I think that Marquis/Harrison would be a more potent striker pairing.

I agree on Marquis/Harrison but right now I think Pitman is just looking a little more predatory. Against Southampton he was in better positions, creating room and seizing half-chances. Plus a goal (and should have been two) against Bolton. He’s fired up at the moment and that’s something we need.

Apologies in advance to all Pitman / Evans / Close fans, but if I was our manager I'd play this team:

Mac
Haunstrup - Burgess - Downing - Bolton
Naylor
Williams - McCrorie/Cannon - Harness
Marquis - Harrison

Subs: Bass, Evans, Pitman, Close, Curtis, McCrorie/Cannon, Raggett

I didn't rate Marquis at all last Saturday but that is the only time I've seen him play for us

I am not sure that I agree with playing 4-4-2 if we are going to be atop L1 team, but credit to Jackett for doing something. What we were doing was clearly not working, and going to a very basic system allows the players to take a breath and reset.

Given service, I am confident that Pitman and Marquis will score goals, but there is pressure on the two wide players to provide creativity. Also a lot of weight on Cannon (whoever) to cover a lot of ground or we will be over-run in midfield and the attackers will get isolated.

All over and 3 very welcome points, even if the stats suggest we were fortunate!
